Sopemea and Apave at the centre of the ITER project

Top News03/15/2019

ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) is one of the most ambitious scientific projects in the field of energy. Initiated in 1985 at the Geneva Summit and governed by an international agreement, the ITER project aims to demonstrate the scientific and technological feasibility of fusion energy, a safe, inexhaustible and environmentally friendly energy source. This is the process that provides the energy of the sun and the stars.

An international agreement, ratified by the ministers of the ITER member entities, brings together Japan, the United States, India, Russia, China, Korea and the European Union (Euratom). Concentrating all the teams around this project, the ITER Organization is leading the design and construction of the world's largest Tokamak after more than 30 years of studies.

ITER, a global project and an international organisation on French territory

ITER, an international scientific cooperation enterprise
ITER Members contribute to the project by providing buildings, parts and systems to the ITER Organization. ITER is currently under construction in Saint-Paul-lez-Durance, France. These Members represent three continents in the ITER Organization offices, agencies, laboratories and industry of the thousands of people involved in this programme. Europe's contribution represents about half of the construction cost.

The involvement of the Apave group and Sopemea in the project

For more than 10 years, the Apave Group has been supporting the ITER Organization and F4E, the European Domestic Fusion for Energy Agency, in a third-party role for technical control of construction, coordination of health and safety risks on site and technical support to the manufacturers of the various equipment. F4E contributes to the project on the scientific and technical feasibility of fusion energy. One of its missions is to work with small and medium-sized industrial enterprises (SMEs) and research organisations to develop, supply technological components, engineering, maintenance and support services for ITER. The Sopemea Group has positioned itself as one of the suppliers of engineering and testing services to F4E.

Apave and Sopemea will participate together in the 2019 edition of the ITER Business Forum, which will bring together industrialists and R&D players for conferences and business meetings, from 26 to 28 March at the Palais des Congrès in Antibes. See you on stand 44
